Further, dynamic load considerations were also incorporated into the design calculations. ![]() The necessary parameters were used to perform the FEA. In this work, analytical expressions for calculating the lateral loads acting on the lug were derived. With this in view, it becomes necessary to account for the lateral forces acting on the lug to assess the structural integrity of the lug. The structural integrity of the lug to the lifting loads was to be assessed by FEA, but the actual factory lifting condition is different from the vertical lifting force usually assumed in the hand calculations. A lug was mismanufactured which led to the concern over its structural integrity to withstand the lifting loads. Failure of lugs can incur significant loss of money and possibly lives of the factory personnel. Lifting lugs are often used as lifting arrangement for heavy objects such as transformers and containers.
